About this collection
The 1911 Census of England, Wales, Channel Islands and Isle of Man was taken on the night of 2/3 April. It collected detailed information on the people who spent the night in each household, including their names, marital statuses, ages, occupations and birthplaces.
The Summary Books provide an outline of this information. They tell you the name of the head of each household, plus how many people were recorded in that home. They also reveal the type of property your ancestors were living in (such as a house, flat or shop), provide a description of the enumerator’s route (often with a map), and offer statistics on the local population.
