This collection contains field books and sketch books kept by the Surveyor General of New South Wales, Australia. The field books cover the years 1794 to 1831. The sketch books cover 1828 to 1903. Records can include names and property descriptions.
Sketch books contain sketches and tracings relating to towns, villages, allotments, land in dispute, street, lands for public use, and similar items. Sketches sometimes served as a basis for later maps. Field books are essentially records of surveying expeditions and provide similar details, as well a geographic features.
